'Dre's Dagger' is a Lady Fern, and one look at those criss-cross fronds marching along tall, straight up-and-down brown stems tells you how it got its name. Super-easy to grow, it is a conversation piece in any setting, and complements surrounding fronds magnificently with its spiky look.The fronds reach about 18 inches high on dense plants that spread 18 inches wide, creating a miniature army of rigidly symmetrical "defense" in the Fern garden! Each frond is merrily crested at the top, and the individual "crosses" each measure about 1 1/2 inches long. What a contrast to the soft, lush fronds of Ferns such as 'Axminster' is striking!This Lady Fern needs protection from strong winds and dry soil, but otherwise is completely maintenance-free. It thrives in waterside plantings, but also tolerates the ordinary soil of the border. It makes a fine edging, and as a container plant it is nothing short of arresting. Its best growth is in fertile, rich soil, but it is adaptable to many soil types and exposures. Content in part sun to full shade, it is free of pests and diseases, quite robust, and ready to grow. Zones 4-8.
