Begonia, Grandis Heron's Pirouette 1 plant

A lovely selection of a begonia species native to Asia, which can naturalize. From tuberous roots emerge clumps to two feet tall. Leaves up to 4" long are almost heart-shaped, bright olive green, with reddish veining below. Pendant clusters of soft pink flowers appear from July to early fall, lending subtle elegance to shady nooks and edgings. Plants thrive in humusy, moist soils, and blend well with ferns, hellebores and Japanese grasses. Apply mulch to protect plants from heavy frost and keep soils moist. In autumn, seeds and tiny bulbils from leaf axils drop to the ground, which generate more plants the next season. Native to Asia, but well-adapted to Zone 6-7. Pink, pendant clusters drape clumps of beautiful, bright green foliage. Best grown in moist, humusy soils in part to full shade.
