Shallots - Shallot Relatives - Yellow Multiplier

Yellow Multiplier (Shallot Relatives) is between a shallot and more substantial potato onion in size. The term 'multiplier' means that the bulbs multiply freely producing several lateral bulbs. These shallots have a sweet, creamy flavor when cooked and has a pungent bite. They are eaten fresh or cooked, chopped or boiled. Fall planting yields lots of husky scallions early in spring and lots of mature onions at harvest, if the scallions aren't heavily picked. Spring planting will produce some scallions with somewhat smaller bulbs. Available spring and fall, Shallots need a continuous supply of nutrients. Split or continuous applications of nitrogen are essential for good growth. After harvest, remove tops only after they are dried, and store the bulbs in a cool, dry area.
