The Early Fortune Organic Heirloom Cucumber was introduced in 1910 by Rice Seed Company who described it as the earliest and best white spine cucumber ever offered. This cucumber produces fruits that are 7 - 8" long x 2" diameter with blunt ends; green with white spines. Early Fortune has an excellent quality for an early slicer. Cucumbers should be planted in late spring when the ground is warm, and they can either be seeded directly in the ground or started indoors. Pick them when they reach around eight or nine inches long. Keeping them picked while young will encourage the plants to keep producing. They can be either grown on the ground, or on a cage or trellis. Only keep cucumbers in the refrigerator for a week after harvest.
