The Chantenay Organic Heirloom Carrot is a standard garden carrot for heavy or shallow soils. It has cylindrical 6" to 7" roots with wide shoulders. This deep red-orange carrot, with sweet fine grain flesh, has a great flavor that sweetens in storage. Chantenay is good for canning, juicing, freezing, and especially good for root cellaring. What a great carrot! There is no need to peel it; quick and easy to cook; and it has a delicious taste, no trace of bitterness; sweet and crunchy. Carrots are a cool season vegetable. The soil temperature must be at least 40 degrees F., and the newly sprouted seeds must not be allowed to dry out. It takes up to 2 weeks to germinate, and they must be kept moist. Early thinning and weeding are a must! Plant carrots in light, sandy or silty loams.
