Mexican Sage Delilah

A Late-Season Delight! Often reblooms! Such a versatile plant, Delilah is an evergreen shrub within its zone 8-11 hardiness range, and a lovely container plant everywhere else! Reaching anywhere from 2 to 4 feet high and wide, it offers lovely variegation paired with bold late-season blooms. Easy to grow and irresistible to hummingbirds and butterflies, it deserves a choice position in your sunny garden or patio!Each leaf on this dark-stemmed plant is outlined in silvery-white, with a deep green center and a wooly reverse. The leaves are held straight out and are slightly curled, for an interesting look. If you allow Delilah to grow to its full height, the stems will arch slightly, sending their blooms up and out from the plant.Beginning in late summer and continuing well into fall, the foliage is topped by 6- to 12-inch bloomspikes packed with rich grape-purple blooms starred with a tiny white center. Very eye-catching, they bring in butterflies and hummers, and make splendid cutflowers. A fully blooming plant is a marvelous sight, and if you cut the stems back right after the first blooms pass, you will probably be rewarded with a very full second flush in early to mid-fall!Native to Mexico (as you might guess) and South America, Delilah forms a bushy evergreen in warm climates and a looser, mounding plant if grown in containers farther north. Either way it is exceptional, its Willow-like leaves offering stunning colors and texture, its blooms blazing in late summer and autumn. Find a place for it in your landscape!
