As they mature, the blooms acquire rose and then burgundy shades, so a fully-blooming display contains a palette of warm color!This groundcover Aster reaches 18 to 24 inches high and spreads about 3 feet wide, with large, bright green leaves, slightly toothy and pointed. The flowers are just 3/4-inch wide, with widely-spaced white petals around a center of yellow. But they arise so profusely that even a single plant is an oasis of color!Butterflies find these flowers irresistible, and will visit your garden right through fall to sample their nectar. And even as the flowers begin to pass, their handsome mahogany stems add a final note of color before winter!Plant Aster 'Eastern Star' in partial to full shade in any well-drained spot. Fertile, enriched soil is best, but this native perennial is adaptable to less-than-ideal conditions! Zones 3-8.
