912 days. When it comes to quantity, quality, and size, Jersey Giant leaves other Asparagus in the dirt! These green spears are a whopping 7 to 9 inches long and between 3/8- and 3/4-inch wide, for an extra bite or two in every spear! They arise profusely on vigorous plants that will keep producing for up to 20 years! And the taste is rich, succulent, and very meaty.Jersey Giant is resistant to Fusarium Wilt, Crown Rot, and Rust, making it far easier to grow than most other varieties. The plants are all males, so you'll get even more spears from every harvest. This is the reliable, high-performing Asparagus you want for maximum delicious eating! We sell well-rooted bareroot plants, and it is important that you plant them at once upon arrival -- dry or withered roots are a problem for Asparagus. Prepare the soil well, adding plenty of organic matter and fertilizing with a well-balanced mixture such as 5-10-10. Asparagus has deep, spreading roots, so be sure the soil is well-worked. Set plants 2 inches below the soil line and about 1 1/2 feet apart. Water well during growth, and fertilize twice annually (before new spring growth and right after harvest). Cut no spears the first year, and cut only sparingly the second in order to encourage a great crop for the third year. If you want white (blanched) Asparagus, simply block out the light as the spears are forming by applying mulch on the plants. This is a "lifetime" crop that will bring you delectable eating for two decades to come!
