This 8- to 12-foot vine has been around for almost 100 years, and from the very first bloom, you'll know why!The perfect size for twining up an arbor (plant one on each side and let them meet at the top!), a lamppost, a garden swing, or just about any other support, the Countess begins opening her huge 4- to 6-inch blooms as soon as the summer heat sets in. All summer long, the flowers continue, crowding one another for best position among the fresh green leaves. A great neighbor to just about any perennial, she really glows beside blue-flowered plants such as Hydrangea Teller Blue or Campanula Samantha.Clematis from Countryside Gardens are top-quality, strong plants, with numerous growth eyes and a vigorous root system. We ship only bareroots, because they tend to settle into your garden much more quickly and permanently than leafing plants. When they arrive, they don't look like much -- a brownish twig atop a big tangle of roots! -- but just get them in the ground and watch them go! Many will bloom the first year, though they really need 2 to 3 years to find their feet and take off. Pest- and disease-free, they're a snap in the sunny garden.
